Description
  • These are a full bore (0.730" diameter) hard hitting solid slug to be used in fully rifled slug barrels, guns equipped with rifled chokes, and select smooth bores with no choke constriction (cylinder bore). These slugs are 37% heavier then 1-oz. foster slugs and 57% heavier then 7/8-oz. foster slugs the two weights commonly factory loaded for the 12ga. which ultimately means more knock-down and better stopping power. If you want better terminal performance from your 12ga. these are the slugs for your reloading needs.

  • Check out my live fire penetration testing of these slugs complete with photos at:
  • These slugs are cast from a custom slug mold from water quench hardened WW alloy. Published load data does NOT exist for these slugs. You will be responsible for developing your own load and the safety thereof. I have no problem telling you how exactly I load these slugs for my own personal use. However, because I cannot control how you will load these slugs and what gun you will shoot them out of I cannot accept any responsibility for the results. My own personal results have been very, very good.

  • Personally I load these slugs using 1-3/8-oz. lead shot load data. I cut the petals off the plastic wads (Fed "S" series wads work best) and put a single 12ga. nitro card between the wad and the slug. For this purpose 100 nitro cards are included with every 100 slugs.

  • These slugs are coated with a thin film of ballistic lubricant containing mainly carnauba wax and alox. This provides excellent lubrication for the slug’s trip down the bore and significantly reduces or in many cases eliminates leading of the bore. This mixture has a dark brown earthy color with a slight tint of rust orange color. Thus why the slugs in the photos have a very "antique look" to them. No they have not been stored in some dark basement for the last hundred years they were cast and lubed by myself in the very recent past.

  • I cast all my slugs from either soft nearly pure lead or water quench hardened WW alloy. The soft lead slugs will expand (mushroom) on impact making for a more extensive wound channel. On the other hand the hard alloy slugs are much better at punching through tough tissue and breaking bones. Purchase the correct alloy for your needs. In addition some guns with some load combinations may shoot slugs of one alloy or the other more accurately. Always range test your loads before attempting to use them for hunting.

  • This batch of slugs was cast from water quench hardened WW alloy.

  • This listing has a fixed shipping cost of $5.00 for shipping to U.S.A. address via USPS priority mail small flat rate box. Items will be shipped ASAP as soon as payment is received from buyer.
  • EXCEPTIONS:
    • If a customer wishes to combine shipping on at least three but less then seven batches of slugs their purchases may be treated as one order and be packaged and shipped together in a medium size flat rate USPS priority mail box the savings on shipping cost which will be passed on to the customer. In such cases a single charge for total shipping of $11.00 will be charged. For all such combinations of shipping please do not use the "Pay Now" option but instead commit to purchase the items and then request a combined invoice from me including combined shipping cost via. the PM (Private Message) option in your members section.
    • International shipping is only done by pre-arrangement prior to purchase. Full, actual cost, international shipping charges and any applicable fees will apply and such an order will only be accepted once I've done a little research and am reasonably confident that shipping cast slugs as ammunition reloading components to the international location in question does not represent a glaring violation of law. Regardless of whether I agree or not to such an exception order the buyer is fully and completely responsible to make sure such a transaction is fully legal according to the laws, regulations, and terms imposed upon him/her by the governing authorities of the international location in question before even requesting such an exception be made.

Shipping & Payment Details

Items will be shipped ASAP as soon as payment is received from buyer. Shipping is done to U.S.A. address via USPS priority mail flat rate box. Normally, each listed item will be shipped separately in its own small flat rate USPS priority mail box. If Multiple item sales (usually three or more batches of slugs) are completed on the same day for the same buyer they may be treated as one order and be packaged and shipped together in a medium size flat rate USPS priority mail box if this will result in a savings on shipping cost which will be passed on to the customer. This is how items will be shipped unless specifically requested otherwise by the buyer (additional shipping charges will most likely apply in such a case). As of beginning date of this listing the USPS flat rate box prices were: Small Box = $4.95 (can fit only one order except for 410-bore slugs where I can fit two orders) & Medium Box = $10.70 (can usually fit up to 6 orders of all but the heaviest slugs). My shipping costs are now $5.00 even per single order of slugs or in cases where the shipping costs can be reduced by packaging multiple orders (usually three or more batches of slugs) in a single medium size USPS flat rate box then my shipping costs will be $11.00 total for the combined order. The additional few cents gained by rounding up to even dollar amounts go towards packing materials. For international shipping requests please see my store page outlining my shipping policies. Payment Methods Accepted = PayPal, AlertPay, USPS Money Order, U.S. Bank Cashiers Check, Cash For Local Pickup Only.

Ask Seller a Question
Question
Are these the same as dixie slugs ?
Answer
They are not the same - they are similar. These particular slugs are closest to the "Tusker" slug load Dixie used to load but not exactly identical. They are basically the same principle though - a full bore diameter slug with a thicker tougher skirt and nose then a conventional foster slug with a SWC or TC shaped nose that is "square" as in its length equals its diameter. Dixie also uses certified alloy to cast their slugs and heat treats them. I use cheaper WW alloy and water drop quench and do not heat treat them. If I used certified alloy and heat treated them I would have to double the price to cover my material costs and my time.
